Description:
The Old Millstone, or "The Milly" as it is known, is one of the most popular pubs in Macclesfield.

Does that mean it is full of the local lowlife? No, on the contary, The Millstone is a very friendly pub with a friendly clientelle, popular with many students.

Drinks prices are the going rate, but they now often do deals on bottles, such as 2 for 3.50 on Bud etc. On tap are Marstons, Marstons Pedigree, Guinness, Carlsberg, Fosters, Stella and Kronenbourg.

Pukka Pies are available, as are a variety of crisps and snacks, cigars and cigarettes.

There is a fruit machine, regularly changed, and a multi-game quiz machine.

A good new jukebox has recently been installed, allowing access to the latest chart hits, rock music, and much more variety. Songs are regularly updated, 5 plays for 1.

There are 3 pool tables which are almost constantly busy all night. 60p a game, winner stays on.

The pub also has a paved beer garden with many tables, and is a great place to relax when the pub itself gets to humid in the summer months.

Now the toilets...

There are two sets of toilets in this pub, one set the the bottom end of the pub, and one set at the top, in the raised area by the pool tables.

The bottom gents toilets feature a long p*ss-stone, a very nice one, usually stocked with p*ss soaps for your amusement. There is also a cubicle down there, with adeqate room, and well presented. Additional features include a sink and a mirror, all in all a nice toilet room, and very spacious.

The top toilets are quite different. A smaller pan, but still with plenty of room. Instead of a trough, the top bogs feature 4 stone urinals, neatly presented and clean, opposite a bank of sinks by the window. above the urinals is a giant chalk board, featuring many messages and quotes, a welcome distraction when having a slash, but make sure you don't get your trousers!

A nice pub, which offers something for everyone, including the toilets.

July 2008 Update:

We've Noticed recently that the big chalk board in the top bogs, which formerly has "The Kirkz are Iron Men" scratched into it, has been replaced with 4 smaller boards. Also note from the new picture that thesecond from the left urinal differs from the other 3, nice!

Still a top pub, get in!

December 2008 Update:

This picture was just gagging to be "snapped off" in the gent's toilets - some dirty sick in the p*ss stone in the lower toilets - nice!

March 2009 Update:

We came in here on Saturday night, the beer and atmosphere were good...

A trip to the top bogs was a little surprising. In the cubicle, the bog seat was on the floor, as was a big bog roll. Maybe you have to slot the loo together as desired. I guess it is set up for a wee, but for a poo you simply need to add the seat yourself. The door locked, and all other facilites were as normal... see new photo.

There was also a tin of diet coke in the bog brush holder, which somebody must have snook in, and needed to dispose of!

Update September 2010:

Now under new management. Not many beers or spirits seem to be on, and some of those that are are expensive. No sports teams either now, I don't think.

Not in a great state at the moment with the beer problems, not a brilliant atmosphere, but some old regulars are returning, hopefully it will rise again from rockbottom!

New photo, came in here the other day, found this nice surprise in the top-gents bog, a sh*tty mess with loo roll.

Room for much improvement - 6/10

Update May 2011:

The Millstone is now under fresh management, and the landlords seem to be making an effort. The place is still quiet though, and may take a long time to recover.

There are only 2 pool tables now, and EPA is on tap!

In the top loos, the cubicle is now in good order, with roll, locking door, and a red bog brush, see new photo!

On the road to recovery.. 7/10

“All the toilets now have new toilet roll holders, handtowel dispensers as well as dryers, soap dispensers and automatic air fresheners. We are the new owners and have spent a lot of time cleaning the whole pub to restore the Millie to its former glory. Come and see the difference.”
