Chesters Restaurant, so named presumably as it sits on the corner of
Chestergate and Chester Road, is one of the posher of Macclesfield's

The food is a mixture of English and Continental. The restaurant is run by

This is an old looking building from the inside, with beams and period
featuresm and a fairly low ceiling.

You will enter via a side door. Our initial impression was a distinct smell of
fish, and yes, fish features in great quantity on the menu.

We were placed in a side room with drinks to ponder the menu whilst a table
became available.

If anyone tells you that Chester's is expensive, they are not joking! There is
what sounds like quite a nice choice on the menu, and there is always a
selection of specials.

I opted for Black Puddding in a Mustard Sauce as a starter, as it sounded
interesting, and a Fillet Steak for a main. All mains come with veg, potatoes
etc to share. The starter was nice, and a good portion, but the main was
attrocious to be honest, my "medium rare" steak was really tough, and only
about the size of a pringles lid, I felt pretty disappointed for 16.

I found my experience typical of others. We were here as a group for a
birthday, and for a starter, a main, and two drinks, it was 28 a head. For
some this was very, very expensive, and the customer service was pretty poor
on the night, the two things only serving to ruin any expectation we had of
this restaurant.

The Worthington Smoothflow Bitter helped a little.

Oh aye, the toilets, maybe they can redeem this place a little?

They are located via the entrance area (where we were sat to peruse the menu
on arrival).

The main gents room is quite spacious, and well lit, with white tiling on the
walls, with stripes every two tiles, and a yellowy beige tiled floor.

There are 3 urinals on the far wall, a hand dryer and sink area to your left,
and the single cubicle on the right.

The urinals were in good order, with p*ss soaps to soak up your p*ss.

In between the two sinks is a table with a plant on, under a mirror, a nice
touch for a gents bog, the hand dryer worked well too.

The sh*tter in the cubicle was ok too, white with a light wooden seat, a bog
roll on a fancy silver stand, with a spare roll on the cistern. It smelt of
sh*t a bit, but then it was a busy night. Oh aye, there was also a standard
white plastic bog brush.

Overall, as a restaurant, this place disappointed massively, but the bogs
weren't half bad, the saving grace perhaps? Mind you, at 30 a head, it's not
worth a trip just for the bogs, even if you are stacking a giant sh*te!

#1: Comment left by Chris Shingles of Macclesfield

“The comments I have read in this section are astonishing to me. In over 20 years I have dined at Chesters I have NEVER had a bad meal. Indeed I have always enjoyed the food. I have been served efficiently, politely and with a smile. As for price I have always left a large tip as I have felt I have been undercharged. As for those people who have made the derogatory comments above I will be pleased not to see them dining at Chesters and leave room for those customs who appreciate high class cuisine at a sensible price in a warm and friendly atmosphere.”

#2: Comment left by Anthony of Macclesfield

“I have used this restaurant for years and found Pepe and his team excellent. On the rare occasions something has been wrong they have put it right without any fuss.

I suggest the author get a life and instead of placing to much emphasis on the toilets and his giant s****, as no doubt he is full off.”
