Description:
J.D. Wetherspoons in Macclesfield...

Opened in summer 2001, Wetherspoons has quickly established itself as one of the most popular pubs in Macclesfield.

Busy during the day with business folk at lunch, and pensioners who drink the day away with pints of smooth.

In the evening, the pub provides the ideal meeting place for young and old alike, and is usually three people deep at the bar between 7:30 and 10:00, going quieter later on as people move on to late opening pubs and clubs.

The building, formerly home of the Useful Knowledge Society (hence the name), is large in size, with high ceilings. A large no-smoking area is to the rear of the pub, several raised and sectioned off areas are also on hand, ideal for eating.

For the summer, there is a small raised patio beer garden, with umbrellas to provide shade from the Macclesfield heat!

Children are now welcome during the day, and a kids menu is provided.

Meals are at the cheaper end of Wetherspoon's pricing, 2 for 5.50 smongst the specials, Thursday Curry Club is 3.99 including a drink! Fish and Chips is nice, yum yum!

There is good choice at the bar, many guest ales at 1.59, usually lots of offers at 99p too. I personally prefer a pint of John Smith's Extra Smooth Bitter at 1.25 a pint.

The disabled toilet is downstairs, ask at the bar if you require the key, but the main toilets are accessed up the large, dominant staircase.

The first gent's door leads to a carpeted entance hall, and the second door to the actual toilets.

The first thing that strikes you is the size. These toilets are bigger than some pubs!

4 wooden finished cubicles are to your left, these are usually stocked with bog roll, but at night when busy, the seats are often covered in p*ss, so you may have to wipe up if you need a sh*t!

The urinals are on the far left, above each is a framed newspaper front page, so you can catch up with the latest in world news as you relieve yourself!

in the center of the room is a dividing wall, of about half the height of the room.

On the other side of this, to the right of the room, are the wash basins.

And basins they are, large modern sinks, soap in between each two, attractively placed on a marble-effect surface.

Turn your back to find the hand dryers and condom machine, both usually in good working order.

As you leave you will see a second door, by the first. Don't worry, this is a cleaners cupboard, nothing much of interest in there!

Overall a busy town centre pub, great for meeting folk.

The toilets are good in their grandure, but us gentlemen miss out compared to the ladies, their toilets have chairs and sofa's in to meet up for a chat, this may be the future of toilets!

Overall 7/10

Update - October 2008:
There are 5 quite nice wash basins in here, however the one on the left has had it's tap-end smashed off / broken. It has been like this for several months now, which really isn't good enough. Come on Wetherspoon Folk, get it sorted!

6/10
