The Jolly, the southern most pub on Sunderland Street!

Next door to Brush Strokes and Thong-In-Cheek, and opposite Dave's house clearance shop, this pub fits the bill well.

This pub is something of a sh*thouse, a bit rough, but it does make an effort.

Friday nights usually play host to blokes singing, posh karaoke basically. But i came mid week for a quiet pint, and to check the sh*tters out.

I had a pint of lager, i think it was Carling, can't remember, p*ssed night!

A packet of Walkers Lamb and Mint Sauce flavour crisps went down well with my pint.

Some interesting features in the pub include pictures of old Macc etc. The pub is basically on big room of seating, with the bar on the left in the middle. Nice comfy bar stools.

Right, bog time, i need a wee!

A double door leads into the jolly bogs, no light in the porch as i entered, and the main bog room is very dark too! not a good start.

The P*ss-Stone is on the far wall, two frosted glass windows above look out onto Townley Street. It is a triple p*ss-stone, each section seperated by metal plating for some reason. Set onto light blue wall tiles, not that i could see them properly.

The bog is to your immediate right, black seat on white, as is the notm these days.

A nice aroma of man-urine as you inspect the large bog-roll holder.

The sinks are fairly unique, moulded all-in-one is a marble-effect twin sink, set under a large mirror. No sign of any soap.

A jonny machine is next to the mirror, and the hand dryer is opposite.

All in all, the pub is trying, but doesn't quite pull it off, and a few lightbulbs would be highly appreciated.

Update August 2008.

This pub is quite good now, lots of guest beers, and good scran.

We were in last night and the Bass tasted a bit iffy though... However we spotted something top on our return from the toilets, a print of a vintage Thomas Crapper advert, check it out (see photo)

Update May 2009:

Came in here last night. The beers have been good of late, had some nice St George's Day specials - however tonight the Guinness had an odd taste to it, not pleasant!

A trip to the loos was a bit off-putting too, see photo, someone has had some splatter filled fun, then not cleaned up!

In general, this pub is very good now, but it would be nice to see the lavatories improved!

“New people now - its a lot better. You need to revisit. Not quite so bad as it was, they're straightening it out.”

“Visited the Jolly Sailor the other day. Much nicer inside now it's under new management - don't think the white leather seats will stay white for long though! Had a very nice J2O - not sure what flavour - was a new one though. Was going to have some food but there wasn't much choice on the menu, so we went to Spoons for the food instead!”

“Tuesday night - open mic night, good atmosphere, good fun and talented musicians regularly perform - some of many worth a note: lee, vorn, don & gary”
