The Major Oak is the new name that has replaced what use to be the The Hogshead pub. The Hogshead was once a popular pub but in recent years had gone down hill somewhat. The pub with itís new name is part of the Stonegate Pub Company Collection.
The pub is just located off the Market Square in the city centre. I went on a mid week afternoon amd the pub was packed out. The clientele vary in here. Good atmosphere from the pub as I walked in. Usual drinks covered the bar Guinness, Carling, Strongbow and Fosters. Good selection of real ales in here. On my visit there was usual Castle Rock beers, Black Sheep Bitter and a selection of Christmas ales. CAMRA members get 10% discount on real ales. As it was Christmas a pint of Rocking Rudolph was the winner of the day.
A fairly decent food menu is available here with the new introduction of waiter service on food and drink. Donít think I fancy someone bringing my pints over even if Iím not eating. Pub offers pool table as well as Sky Sports.
Right enough of the pub its time for a sh*te.
The Toilets here are located across from the bar down some stairs.
The first thing that grabs your attention is the nice Gents sign on the bog door (see photo). Nice Toilets here and spacious inside. On offer are six urinals and two cubicles to the right. As I needed a sh*t I went into the cubicle. To my shock the loo roll dispenser was broken and very little arse wipe available. This really let the great first impressions down. Some twat had also blocked the bog.
Three wash basins and three mirrors here. Condom machine and hand dryer. Nice green tiles on the wall and great flooring in the bog.
Overall nice toilet but the cubicle experience ruined it for me.
