Description:
Originally a 16th century cottage, it was later sold for the princely sum of five shillings. The ‘confessional’, one of the smallest and oldest serving bars in England, dating back to when the pub was still a cottage, is still in use today.

In 1830 the pub was purchased by a captain in the Queens regiment who named it ‘Crown Inn’. The sign of the crown, the third most popular pub name in the country, shows allegiance to the monarchy and is also an easily recognised visual symbol. Reputedly, the premises are haunted by the ghost of a cavalier.

About two years ago the pub was taken over by Everards and since then the pub has been one of the most popular meeting points in Beeston. The pub do up to eight real ale hand pumps at a time, traditional ciders and a large selection of whiskeys on offer. A nice selection of bar snacks are available from local pork pies to traditional hand made crisps.

Sometimes the pub runs its own beer festival and will have a weekend of activities at the pub. Big beer tent outside, local food on sale and live music. The pub still gets packed at weekends in the evenings and is mostly quiet in the week.

The loos are located to the right as you walk in from the pub car park.

The sh*tters are brilliant here with various things going off.

First of all there is one cubicle here. Always plenty of bog roll on offer. However the window in the cubicle always seems to be constantly open all year round.

Five urinals here, one wash basin, one wall mirror, hand dryer and plastic bin below.

The toilets here a nicely decorated with old advertisements, posters and newspaper clippings. My favourite are the Newcy Brown and Fish Naked posters (see photos.)

There are also some fairly old scales in here. So you can weigh yourself in here if you been eating to many pies and pasties.

Great loos with lovely vintage style décor. Brilliant pub as well.

9/10.

UPDATE FOR 2013:

We went to the Crown at Beeston a few weekends back to go to one of their mini beer festivals that they have on every weekend during the summer months. A good night was had by all and much ale was consumed.

We also came back to re-review the bogs. As we were p*ssing away into the urinals we had a great surprise when we looked up. The staff at the Crown have put up a great tribute to our original pub toilet review of their bog. They have put on the wall a framed tribute to our reviews of the bogs around Beeston, Nottingham. They have entitled it 'The Great Urinals of Beeston'.

In the frame is a selection of our photographs of some of the many splendid pub toilets around Beeston. There is also a few words of tribute to Pubtoilets.com. The text reads:

'The Great Urinals of Beeston'

According to Pubtoilets.com you are urinating in the best pub toilets in Beeston. Of 11 pubs surveyed on their website The Crown scored the highest rating of 9/10. This is what they said:

"The Sh*tters are brilliant here with various things going off. There are also some fairly old scales in here. So you can weigh yourself in here if you been eating to many pies and pasties. Great loos with lovely vintage style décor. Brilliant pub as well" 9/10

How many others do you recognise?

What a lovely framed tribute to our original review and to Pubtoilets.com! See new photos added to see what the framed tribute looks like.

Going back to the toilets.....on our second visit here everything was spot on in the bogs. Bit busy do to the fact it was Saturday night. However even though it was busy the toilets were still to a good clean standard.

We had a great night, the bogs were just as great as last time and seeing the framed tribute on the wall made our night.

10/10.

“Hello ref your review of the Crown pub Nottingham. I agree with everything you say it is a great pub. However, surely you noted the terrifying dryer? The noise is like a pneumatic drill going off. It is seriously affecting my pleasure of using the toilets. I look forward to your views on this issue. Thanks
Andrew”

“We are glad you liked our review for the Crown. In someways we suppose it is a bit of a 'noisy' hand dyer. But it has never broken down on us yet! Perhaps the pub management would consider fitting a new one in? ”

“I believe that the hand dryer was added to these toilets ironically after a number of complaints were made by members of the public about the inefficency of the previous dryer.
I believe that it is safe to say that no one will deny that, although noisey, the dryer is extremely effective in it's duties and I for one applaude the management team for taking on board comments made and retifying the issue in this way.”
