Description:
Originally a 16th century cottage, it was later sold for the princely sum of five shillings. The ‘confessional’, one of the smallest and oldest serving bars in England, dating back to when the pub was still a cottage, is still in use today.
In 1830 the pub was purchased by a captain in the Queens regiment who named it ‘Crown Inn’. The sign of the crown, the third most popular pub name in the country, shows allegiance to the monarchy and is also an easily recognised visual symbol. Reputedly, the premises are haunted by the ghost of a cavalier.
About two years ago the pub was taken over by Everards and since then the pub has been one of the most popular meeting points in Beeston. The pub do up to eight real ale hand pumps at a time, traditional ciders and a large selection of whiskeys on offer. A nice selection of bar snacks are available from local pork pies to traditional hand made crisps.
Sometimes the pub runs its own beer festival and will have a weekend of activities at the pub. Big beer tent outside, local food on sale and live music. The pub still gets packed at weekends in the evenings and is mostly quiet in the week.
The loos are located to the right as you walk in from the pub car park.
The sh*tters are brilliant here with various things going off.
First of all there is one cubicle here. Always plenty of bog roll on offer. However the window in the cubicle always seems to be constantly open all year round.
Five urinals here, one wash basin, one wall mirror, hand dryer and plastic bin below.
The toilets here a nicely decorated with old advertisements, posters and newspaper clippings. My favourite are the Newcy Brown and Fish Naked posters (see photos.)
There are also some fairly old scales in here. So you can weigh yourself in here if you been eating to many pies and pasties.
Great loos with lovely vintage style décor. Brilliant pub as well.
9/10.
