Description:
Orginal the Abbey Tavern, In the early 1860s William Shaw appears to have opened a beerhouse on Abbey Street, which became known as The Abbey Tavern. This meant that those living in the Abbey Street area of Lenton could now choose to patronise anyone of four pubs - the other three being The White Hart, The Red Cow and The Boat.

Frank Johnson probably had a fairly shrewd eye for a 'good' pub and he evidently liked the look of The Abbey Tavern because, in 1904, he chose to buy it. A number of minor improvements were put in train, but in 1912 he decided that the pub and adjoining buildings should be demolished and new ones put up in their place. The rest is history as they say and the pub still flourishes to this day.

A short distance from Nottingham University, the Johnson Arms boasts a great selection of ales from around the country. The pub's interior is simple and open, often proving popular with groups of students. The pub holds regular events such as beer festivals and quizzes.

This pub is a personal favorite of ours and we especially love coming here in the summer. The beer festivals are always banging with plenty of real ale options and even some Morris Dancers can be seen dancing in the beer garden!

As it is near Nottingham University, as you can imagine this place is very popular with students. The Nottingham Canal is not far from here and after walking along the Canal we came in here for several liquid refreshments.

Very busy as you can imagine for a late Friday afternoon. We managed to find a seat though and sat down with our pints of 99 Red Baboons from Nottingham's local brewery Blue Monkey.

The beer and the atmosphere went hand in hand when we were in. After several pints we soon needed a p*ss.

The bogs are located in two separate locations for ladies and gents. For blokes the bogs are located just passed the bar and they are to the right just as you walk through the door to another drinking area. We could not remember where the ladies bogs are, but they were close to the bar.

Walk through a green door to find a decent sized gents bog.

On the main left wall there are four cracking looking urinals.

There are white wall tiles in here, with a yellowish looking floor.

To the right is just one cubicle. Luckily on our visit there was no one in the cubicle, so we got a chance to have a look inside.

A decent looking bowl with a white toilet seat and matching white bog brush. Also a black cistern above. On the cubicle door there is a little poster adverting a t shirt offer. It reads "Been there, drunk that.. Now buy the t-shirt!". The poster is advertising the t shirts marking the 100 years anniversary of the pub which was last year (2012).

A single sink near to the cubicle. Everything worked fine there.

A simple bog here and a brilliant pub. Well worth a visit.

Highly recommended.

9/10.
