An 18th-century inn situated between Winchester Cathedral and the college, tucked away in the quietest corner of the city. The city-centre is a 5-minute walk away.

Retaining many original features, the Wykeham Arms is known for its charm, excellent food, fine wines, log fires and local ales.

Recently refurbished, Wykeham Arms has a range of individually-designed, luxury bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. All have period features and elegant decor. Free Wi-Fi is provided.

The traditional restaurant and cosy bar are decorated with memorabilia and have a warm ambience. It is an ideal location from which to explore Winchester.

Lovely pub and very very good service although not sure the food was worth the price unfortunately. Good quality - but £14 for a burger and £26 for only a 6oz steak (plus extra for sides!) but not as good as you'd expect for something charging almost Michelin star prices. I would recommend for an experience but be wary of what you choose to eat!

The toilets are really old here.

In the cubicle there is a lovely old fashioned crapper (see photo). We loved everything about it and the flush was superb. An actual crapper toilet in here!

…Thomas “Crapper’s Valveless Waste Preventer”! Not the oldest toilet in England but certainly one of the country’s oldest functioning flushable numbers.

Unfortunately for Crapper, the term “crap” to describe human excrement was already in common use by his time. So faced with his situation, Plumber and Toilet-maker probably seemed like the most fitting career route to go down. It gets better: Crapper also invented something called the “ballcock”. Though anyone who knows anything about plumbing will tell you this is nowhere near as hilarious as it sounds.

Out of the cubicle we have the usual features: urinals, sinks and hand dryers. Which all worked fine.

Lovely vintage bogs here and the crapper bog was a delight to see.
