This Wetherspoons pub takes it's name from the largely hidden stream known as the Dog Beck which crossed the open area now occupied by the adjacent New Squares shopping centre. It then ran into an underground channel in front of the present pub's premises and underneath Penrith to the Thacka Beck. The present pub building is an amalgamation of several properties. The largest is an early 19th-century grade II listed building. Most recently a nightclub, it had housed the Cumberland County Clinic.
Nice enough Wetherspoons here. We had a great steak, egg and chips as part of the Sunday Club menu. We had a pint of Guinness to wash the steak down all less than £9!
The steak was cooked a perfect medium-rare and was very tender. A good range of ales and ciders and vast seating area. Very handy if you are staying in the nearby Premier Inn (only a 2 minute walk)
The bogs are the generic Wetherspoons style toilets.
Plenty of cubicles here. A rather nice touch here are scenes of the Lake District countryside on the cubicle doors.
Overall nice spacious and clean bogs.
The food was decent enough and we enjoyed our visit here.
